25% quota for poor students in unaided schools

Andhra Pradesh Secondary Education Minister K Parathasarathy today announced that the state government will implement the 25 per cent quota for poor students in all private unaided schools as per the Right to Education Act (RTE) and as directed by the Supreme Court. Addressing a press conference here, the Minister said the government would implement the RTE in the State from the ensuing academic year. It may be mentioned that the private school managements were divided on the issue and some of them have decided to file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the quota orders. While referring to the poor performance of students in first year results in Telangana region, the Minister admitted and the Sakala Janula Samme, the 42-day general strike demanding Telangana State, could be one of the reasons for bad performance. The minister also informed that the new syllabus would be introduced for the intermediate from this academic year. Steps would be taken to stop piracy of intermediate text books published by the Telugu Academy, he added.
