Looking at a website's traffic gives a good idea of how successful that website is. If you own a website, then finding out traffic stats for it is not that big a deal. But what if you don't own a website, but still want to spy on it? Maybe, that site is your competitor i.e. in the same niche as your own. In my post on 20 Hot SEO Tactics, I raised the point that if you want to succeed, you should keep an eye on what your competitors are doing, so that you get a better idea of what you need to do, and what you don't need to do. Luckily for you, there are a bunch of free tools that can give you estimated stats for a certain website. They might not be very accurate, but at least they give you a general approximation of stats, such as page-views, unique visits, earnings etc. Here are the top 5 such tools;

1. Alexa - The Web Information Company

Alexa the web information company
Alexa is the leading web information company which is free. And it provides a good, detailed list of stats. It will give you estimates on the number of page-views, bounce rate, search analytics, audience information, reach (which, according to Alexa, is determined by the number of unique visitors), and a lot more.

Now Alexa might not be as good as Google Analytics, but it comes close. In fact, its page-view stats are quite near to those shown by Google Analytics, and it follows the same graph as well. Below is a picture of MBT traffic stats as shown by Alexa. Note that these might not be accurate, but they are closer to the facts than any other analytics company.

2. Google Ad Planner

This is one of the best tools for monitoring website statistics. And it's a lot more accurate than many other tools. It gives you the option for monitoring worldwide stats as well stats by region. It gives you all the basic stats like unique visitors, page-views, demographic details, and more. Google Ad Planner is a must-try for all. One thing though. You have to sign into your Google Account for viewing Ad Planner stats

3. Google Trends

If you want to look at stats for large websites, like Wikipedia etc, then this is the thing for you. Google Trends statistics can be very accurate, since it makes use of multiple analytics tools such as Google Analytics, third party statistic tools, and other marketing researches. The only drawback to it is though, it shows stats for sites that have a very high traffic flow.

4. Compete

Compete is a good resource for monitoring website stats for the U.S. It can get pretty close to the actual stats of a websites, since it uses data from ISPs as well. But unfortunately, it is limited to the U.S. Hence, it displays stats for traffic coming from U.S. only. But on the positive side, it has web statistics for nearly every website on the internet.

5. TrafficEstimate

TrafficEstimate, as the name suggests, gives a general estimate of your website stats. It provides information in many areas, such as page-views, unique visits, keyword stats, and more. If you are looking for keyword suggestions and similar information from your competitor websites, then this is a good place to start.

In the end, just for fun, let me tell you about another such tool, Site Worth Checker. The only thing I think is accurate about this tool is the page-views, although other are good estimates too. But the fun part about it is, it tells you how much your website is worth in USD. According to Site Worth Checker, MBT is worth $215,000 :D. Of course, it is not an accurate estimation, but you could compete with your friends and fellow bloggers, just for the sake of fun :)

The most talked about and much anticipated movie of the season was ‘Dammu’ and it came in with strong hype. However, the real strength of any movie is discovered only during the first weekend of its release. And according to our sources, the final collection report has not been that encouraging.
It is heard that as of Saturday the collections dropped. But on Sunday it picked up very well due to the family audience. But on Monday, most of the theatres were empty and the evening shows recorded below average percentage. Now, today is May Day, a labour holiday. Today it will decide the fate because from tomorrow onwards things will be routine.
The cine analysts are stating that ‘Dammu’s maximum to maximum collection would be between Rs 20-25 crores. It can collect upto that much only. With this, the producers are safe but the distributors and third parties are clean bowled. Only a strong positive talk can help revive things.

The Telugu superstar will make his Bollywood debut with Zanjeer remake while the Hindi remake of his film Magadheera won’t feature him.
Telugu superstar Ram Charan Tej is making his Bollywood debut with the remake of Prakash Mehra’s Zanjeer - a film that gave Amitabh Bachchan his first hit and the angry-young-man tag. Ironically his Telugu blockbuster Magadheera is being remade in Bollywood but he is not starring in it.
While one would have expected Ram Charan to debut in Hindi with the Magadheera remake, the actor decided against it. In fact even Anil Kapoor suggested him the same. “When I met Anil Kapoor some time back, he told me I will ask Boney to remake Magadheera with you in Hindi. But I said I don’t know if I would want to do the remake. Magadheera is a lovely film which can’t be recreated”, says Ram
Ranveer Singh will now be seen recreating his character in the Hindi version of Magadheera to be directed by Abhishek Kapoor. But before this casting was done, Ram Charan personally felt Hrithik or Ranbir could have pulled off the role. “Ideally I think it is Hrithik Roshan who should be playing the character. Even Ranbir Kapoor is really good for the role. He is a young actor who can blend well with any character”, says Ram Charan.
Meanwhile the actor is aware that comparison between his debut and Amitabh Bachchan’s Zanjeer are inevitable. Nevertheless he is all set for his big Bollywood debut.

With the negative talk spreading on his latest movie Dammu following a flurry of hate messages being sent by the Telugu Desam Party workers in Vijayawada calling upon the people not to watch the movie, Junior N T Rama Rao quickly came down to undo the damage done to his image.

According to reliable sources, NTR had personally driven to the residence of his “babai” Nandamuri Balakrishna and gave him a lengthy explanation on the controversial episode of his friend Vallabhaneni Vamsi shaking hands with and hugging YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

NTR reportedly told Balakrishna that he was absolutely no way connected with the episode and that he had never encouraged Vamsi or another MLA Kodali Nani to have any pact with Jagan.
“I have no role whatsoever with the incident. In fact, I pulled Vamsi up for making it a big controversy and he had clarified that he had no plans to join the Jagan party whatsoever and would remain in the TDP,” he said.
Sources said Balakrishna, however, was not fully convinced with NTR’s explanation. He, however, told NTR to be wary of the divide and rule tactics of Jagan.
It may be mentioned that Balakrishna had ensured that there is no positive talk about Dammu, since he did not want it to overtake his film Simha. There were no post-release promo talks or success meetings anywhere about Dammu so far. And that has led to the talk in the industry that the film is just an average show.

Ramcharan with Racha and Jr.Ntr with Dammu both young heroes are on Hit Track with lot of  crazy and following ,more than that both are buddies with the kind of fights that the fans of these heroes have, their friendship has created a new chapter in the Tollywood circuit.
Keeping all these factors in mind one of the recent prestigious banner is planning to encash with a multistarrer .Its none other than the  famous R R Moviemakers banner which has very vast experience in giving hype to the movies, as they always believe in marketing rather in content , the R R Moviemakers are keen on coming up with a film starring both.
With films like ‘Seetamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ opening the gates for multi-starrers, it could well be that having NTR and Charan sharing the screen space will create a major hysteria among the cine buffs. And R R Moviemakers have the required potential to pull this impossible project successfully.

Blogging is the new national pastime--not just for Americans, but for Internet-connected people all over the world. It's an activity that spans all age groups and occupations. There are personal blogs, social blogs, and professional blogs. Whatever the topic, someone has probably blogged it. Some of us get paid to blog and others pay for the privilege of blogging (on a particular site or with particular software).
The Internet made it possible for anyone to publish content to a worldwide audience. The Web log, or blog format, has made it easier and more convenient. But all blogs are not created equal. Some draw an eager following and others languish in obscurity. Regardless of your reason for blogging, you can make your blog better, more readable and--if it's what you want--more popular.

#1: Define your purpose

The first step in creating a better blog is to ask yourself why you're blogging. What's the purpose of your blog? Is it to be a public version of the personal diary, recounting your experiences, thoughts, and emotions? Is it more of a journal, where you preserve ideas and outline projects? Is it a social site, for interacting with friends, sharing links, getting to know people? Is it an editorial page, for commentary on politics, social trends, and current events? Is it a professional or hobbyist site, for sharing conceptual and how-to information about some field of study or work (e.g., aviation, computer programming, or photography)?
Sure, you can have "just a blog" that combines elements of all of these, but you may find that readers prefer you to specialize. If you want to write about your field of expertise sometimes and your favorite political party at other times, it might be beneficial to maintain two separate blogs to avoid alienating or boring your readers half the time.
Speaking of readers, an important element in defining your purpose is to know your audience. That will help you determine the voice and writing style that's appropriate for those you're addressing. You probably wouldn't use the same style when writing to stock car race fans that you'd use if your audience were made up primarily of stock market brokers.
In keeping with your blog's purpose, you should have a defined theme. For example, if the purpose of your blog is to express political opinions, the theme might be to promote a low-tax, nonintrusive government.

#2: Create visual appeal

Content isn't the only thing that matters. Your blog site should also be visually appealing, or at least visually neutral. You don't want to scare away prospective readers or have them leave in frustration because the page is distracting or unreadable.
The best visual design for the page is dependent in part on your audience and theme. You can use color, font styles, and graphics to set the mood and tone--just make sure the tone matches the content. Whatever your theme, it's best to avoid dark letters on a dark background, tiny or overly fancy typefaces, and other elements that make your blog hard to read.
If your blog is hosted on a public blog site, you may be limited in how much you can change the design, but there will usually be a number of preconfigured visual themes you can choose from. Keep audience appeal and readability in mind when selecting one.

#3: Use the proper tools

You can create a blog using any WYSIWYG HTML editor, such as FrontPage (soon to be replaced by Microsoft Expression Web Designer), Macromedia Dreamweaver, or the Amaya open source editor endorsed by W3C. You can even use a text editor like Notepad to compose the HTML code.
However, blogging is made much easier, faster, and more convenient if you use a dedicated blogging program or the features of a blogging Web site that lets you compose posts in the Web browser or via e-mail.
If your blog is hosted on a free public blog site, such as Blogger or Windows Live Spaces, you can write your posts in your e-mail client and send them to a special address you're given when you create your account. For many, this is the easiest way to post, although it doesn't show you the formatting.
Another alternative is to use a blog program such as WordPress, Movable Type, Post2Blog, or Windows Live Writer, which offer various useful features. For example, Windows Live Writer (free download at http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/) lets you put a button on the toolbar in IE so that if you want your blog to reference a Web site you're visiting, you can highlight the text you want to quote and click Blog It. This opens Live Writer and inserts the link and the quoted text in your blog. You can publish to your blog on Live Spaces or other popular blogs with a single click.

#4: Make it easy to navigate

If you're designing your blog site from scratch, it's important to make it easy for readers to get around and do what they want to do. For instance, if you're using comments and RSS feeds, make sure it's clear to readers how to post a comment or subscribe to the feed.
You should also make it easy for readers to find past posts. Make sure archives are organized logically--not just in chronological order but in categories to make it easier to find particular posts.
If your blog is hosted on a public blog site, you can usually change the arrangement of page elements, add or eliminate elements (often called modules), and otherwise influence the navigability of the page. Keep clutter to a minimum but be sure to include the elements that readers need.
Make your site searchable, if possible, so users can find posts using keywords. You can put a free Google search box on your site (for more information, seehttp://www.google.com/searchcode.html#both).

#5: Stay in one place

Many bloggers experiment with different blog hosting sites and/or with hosting their own sites, especially early on in their blogging experience. It may take you awhile to find the best setup, but try to do so as soon as possible and then stay in one place so your readers can find you. Moving around to different URLs too often is sure to lose you some readers.
If you have an established blog and it's necessary to move it to a different address, try to publish a last post on the old blog that points readers to the new blog and leave it up as long as possible.

#6: Engage your readers

Perhaps the most important factor in attracting and keep readers is establishing a relationship with them. Even interesting content is rendered less interesting if we don't know who's talking (writing) to us. Tell your readers who you are and something about yourself.
You need not go into a lot of personal details if your blog is political or professional, and in some cases you may not even want to reveal your real name (especially, for example, if you're posting derogatory information about your employer or the police chief in your small town). But don't just remain nameless; give readers a pseudonym by which to identify you and tell them generalities about yourself that will lend you credibility without blowing your cover. For instance, you might say that you're a middle-age male who lives in Texas and has worked in the telecommunications industry.
If you don't have a reason to keep your identity confidential, you may be able to benefit (attract the attention of headhunters in your field, become recognized as an expert in a particular area, etc.) by using your real name and providing contact information.
Regardless of whether you reveal your true identity, you can engage readers by interacting with them through the comments feature or by providing an e-mail address and responding to their input. You can, of course, use a free Webmail address or other alternative to your primary address if you want to protect your identity and/or avoid spam.
Engaging readers involves winning their trust and thinking of the reader first. If you make claims, back them up with cites and links. If possible, don't link to sites that require a subscription or even free registration (or if you must, warn readers).

#7: Establish a blogging schedule

Blog readers are a fickle bunch. Once you've drawn an audience, they expect to find new content when they visit your blog. That doesn't mean you have to post every day, but you should establish a minimum blogging schedule and stick to it. Let readers know, preferably in a static text box at the top of your blog page, that you will update the blog daily, weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, or whatever. Then do it--even if some of your posts aren't particular profound or long. Readers will abandon your blog if they think you've abandoned them.
If you need to deviate from your schedule (for example, you're going on vacation for two weeks or you'll be in the hospital or you have a family or job emergency), let readers know that you won't be posting at the regular time and give them an idea of when you'll be back.

#8: Keep it concise

Speaking of posts that aren't particularly profound or long, don't think you have to wait until you have something brilliant to say before you post or put off posting because you don't have time to write War and Peace today. In truth, most readers have short attention spans and/or crowded schedules themselves and would prefer to read a short, pithy post rather than a long, complex one.
If you do post lengthy pieces, break them up into short paragraphs to make them more readable. There's nothing more daunting to a reader than a huge mass of unbroken text, no matter how skillful your turn of phrase.
You'll also attract more readers with common words than with obscure ones, so unless you're writing for a particularly scholarly audience, follow the old KISS advice: Keep it simple, sweetheart.

#9: Proofread before publishing

Even if you're an English professor, it's easy to end up with typographical errors, misspellings, and grammatical flaws in your posts if you don't proofread before you hit the Publish button. Especially if you're writing in the heat of passion or inspiration, your typing fingers can get ahead of your thoughts and cause words to be omitted or transposed, commas to appear in the wrong places, or sentences to become garbled.
Maybe you pride yourself on not adhering strictly to the rules, but presumably, you still want your readers to understand what you're saying. That complex sentence that seemed so brilliant in composition may read a little awkwardly once you see it on the screen.
It's difficult to catch mistakes in your own writing, because you tend to fill in what you thought you typed, rather than see what's really there. This is particularly true immediately after writing. If possible, have someone else proofread your post before you publish it. Otherwise, let it "cool off" for an hour or a day so you can approach it with a more objective proofreader's eye.
And although it's best to catch mistakes before they're published, one huge advantage of Web content is that, unlike print copy, it's easy to change if you discover a problem after publication.

#10: Go syndicate yourself

You don't have to wait for readers to come to your blog every day or every week. Instead, you can take your blog to them. Use RSS to feed your new blog posts to readers who sign up. This makes it easier for your readers, who don't have to remember to visit your blog Web site to check for new posts--and whatever makes it easier for readers is good for authors. You can syndicate just your post titles, short summaries, or entire posts.
Most public blog hosting sites give you the option to syndicate your blog, and it's usually as easy as clicking a button or two in the configuration interface. If you want to syndicate your self-hosted Web site, see http://www.xul.fr/en-xml-rss.html for more information.

Television viewers will soon get to choose a minimum of hundred Free to Air (FTA) channels at a maximum retail price of Rs 100, as per new tariff rules for Cable TV announced by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday.
According to the regulatory framework for Digitalised Cable TV brought out by TRAI to safeguard consumers’ interests, cable operators will have to mandatorily offer a Basic Service Tier (BST) to viewers throughout the country.
The Basic Service Tier would consist of 100 Free to Air channels including 18 mandatory Doordarshan channels plus the Lok Sabha channel.
The TRAI tariff order lays down that apart from the mandatory channels in the BST, cable operators and Multi System Operators (MSOs) will have to provide customers a minimum of five channels of different genres.
The genres which TRAI has named are General Entertainment Channels(GEC) in English, GEC- Hindi, GEC – Regional, Music, News, Movies, Sports, Kids Infotainment, lifestyle.
“The BST shall be mandatorily offered by the cable operator. However it will be optional for the consumer to subscribe,” TRAI said in its tariff order.
Customers can also choose another option which includes some pay channels and pay a monthly price upto Rs 150, the TRAI rules state.
“If the total value of the channels/ bouquets opted by the subscriber exceeds Rs 150, only then actual subscription charges has to be paid,” a press release issued by TRAI said.
These rules will come into force along with the Digitalisation of the cable sector for which the government has already set up a deadline of June 30, 2012 in four metros and December 2014 for the entire country.
TRAI’s latest tariff order has also laid down rules on the basis of which channels and bouquets will be priced.
The rules have been brought out by TRAI to ensure that popular channels are not overpriced and consumers don’t have to choose bouquets which include unwanted channels.
As per the rules laid in TRAI’s order, the sum of the a-la-carte rates of channels in a bouquet should not be more than 1.5 times the rate of the bouquet.
Moreover the a-la-carte rates should not exceed 3 times the average channel rate of each bouquet, the TRAI rules lay down.
TRAI has also laid down that all channels whether pay or FTA should be offered on a-la-carte basis to individual channels. In a release, TRAI said that it also expected MSOs to increase their channel carrying capacity.
“The Authority has mandated MSOs to carry a minimum of 500 channels from January 1, 2013. However, keeping in view that smaller MSOs having less than 25000 subscribers may need some additional time for building capacity, they have been given time up to April 1, 2013,” TRAI said in a press release.
TRAI, however, has prescribed that every MSO should have a minimum capacity to carry 200 channels by July 1, 2012.
TRAI has in its latest tariff ordered also addressed the issue relating to the Carriage Fee.
“Keeping in view the fact that substantial investment for implementation of Digital Addressable Cable TV Systems is made by the MSO and the cost involved in carriage of channels, the Authority has decided that every MSO may fix the Carriage Fee,” TRAI said.
It, however, said that it would would intervene in case it is felt that the Carriage Fee is unreasonable. Carriage fee is the amount that channels pay MSOs to get access to viewers.
As per the new rules, Broadcasters would enjoy must carry provision which means that they can get the MSOs to take their channel to the viewer if they pay the carriage fee, published by the channel.
TRAI has also established guidelines for revenue sharing between Multi System Operators (MSOs) and Local Cable Operators (LCOs).
“The Authority has now prescribed that in case the mutual negotiations fail, the revenue share shall be in the ratio of 55:45 (MSO:LCO) for BST or FTA channels,” TRAI said in its statement.
“The revenue share for Pay channels or bouquet of Pay channels with or without FTA channels shall be in the ratio of 65:35 (MSO: LCO),” the statement added.

Get ready to pay a penalty of Rs 400 and attend counselling on traffic rules, if you block the way of vehicles taking a left turn at the Free Left turns at important junctions in the city. Similarly, stop line violation will also burn a hole in your pockets from now on because the traffic police have decided on a special drive on Free Left and Stop Line violation.
“It is noticed that both two and four-wheeler drivers have been overtaking vehicles waiting for the green signal from the left and obstructing those who want to go left. This is unfair to those who follow traffic rules sincerely, as they feel cheated by those who keep driving past from the left and rush forward when the signal turns green,’’ Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), C V Anand said.
The traffic police have identified 57 places at 42 junctions where the road is wide enough to leave a space of about 10 ft for vehicles going on Free Left and decided to penalise who block the Free Left lane. Though a similar drive was enforced some time back, the police said the habit (of leaving free left) did not last long. During the previous drive, the police had painted Free Left markings with double line of white paint.
Now, the police have decided to indicate the Free Left with the help of a signage board mounted on a stand at a comfortable height, so that motorists can see it. “The entire Free Left will be physically marked by about 10 cones. There will be a rope which will run from the Free Left board through all the cones to physically prevent motorists from violating Free Left by driving in between the cones,’’ Anand said. These Free Left sign boards and cones will be put at 57 places from 8 a.m and will be removed after 9 p.m.
“The special drive will concentrate on educating motorists to stick to the lanes in the junctions without encroaching on the double line drawn for Free Left. Any motorist crossing this double line or touching it would be challaned under sections of lane crossing and also rash driving of the Motor Vehicle Act and would be slapped with a fine of Rs 400,’’ Anand said.
On the issue of pedestrians unable to cross the road at the junctions due to Free left, the traffic boss said a traffic constable and a home guard would be posted at the Free Left point to allow pedestrians to cross the road before allowing vehicles to proceed. The police will educate the public at the junctions on Monday and start challaning the violators from Tuesday.
Similarly, any two-wheeler stopping beyond the Stop Line would be slapped with a fine of Rs 100 for lane crossing and a four-wheeler would be penalised by Rs 200. “Cameras will be deployed to take photographs of violators of Stop Line and Free Left. Any violating vehicle will be stopped from going straight and will be asked to go all around and come back to the adjacent junction as a deterrent measure,’’ Anand said.  The violators will be sent to the Traffic Training Institutes at Goshamahal and Begumpet for counselling.

“JR.NTR DOESN’T BELONG TO NANDAMURI VAMSHAM. SO, DON’T WATCH THE MOVIE, DAMMU”.
Above SMS is widely circulating among the supporters of TDP and Balayya, reported a leading Telugu newspaper today as a headline article. As per the details of that article, the recent tiffs between Jr.NTR and the TDP led to Jr.NTR changing his political strategies. He deliberately let his follower Vallabhaneni Vamsi to meet Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy. Currently, Balakrishna is playing a dominant role in TDP whereas Jr.NTR and his father Harikrishna were completely ignored by Chandrababu. This made Jr.NTR to take some revolutionary decisions and under the part of them, there was a Vamsi-Jagan’s meet.
Having got furious over Jr.NTR’s political moves, Chandrababu Naidu and Balakrishna decided to circulate messages to the party workers and Balakrishna’s fans and as a result, above SMS was circulated among them. Meanwhile, despite its poor talk, ‘Dammu’ collected extremely good collections for the first weekend. “At this particular juncture, this kind of negative publicity against the movie definitely affects the movie’s collections in future”, say the trade sources.
