People across India observed World Earth Day on Sunday with an aim to save the blue planet from pollution.
Activists and environmentalists, in Visakhapatnam, conducted a beach cleanup programme to educate people about the significance of survival of life on earth.
Speaking to mediapersons, Head of the Department of Geo-Engineering and Resource Development Technology, G. Jaya Shankar highlighted the importance of World Earth Day.
“The people of Visakhapatnam now realise the importance of land. The land has given abundant water, large extent of fertility land, forests, and particularly intellectual population. So, when land has given these valuable assets to this nation, the entire people of Visakhapatnam are thinking that we have to save the land,” said Shankar.
The programme was conducted at the R. K beach, Vuda and Rashikonda beaches of the city.
Meanwhile, in Imphal people observed Earth Day by organising a silent rally at Kangla Palace. State officials also planted trees to mark the occasion.

The need for action has become more acute as a growing human population puts more people and more assets in the path of disaster, raising economic risk as per the reports of U.N.
